The Nicklaus Golf Clubhouse at
Promontory delivers a strong contemporary statement that impressed the judges.
“A bold and daring design with unapologetic reference to the past,” said Hart.
“This clubhouse design is small but
packed with comfortable features and
carries the exterior aesthetics into the
interior with ease and style.”
Swaback Partners used natural cut
stone and weathering steel to wrap the
clubhouse in low-maintenance materials,
helping it settle into the rolling hills and
topography of the site. Swaback used the
same materials on the inside to carry the
design concept throughout the site.
“The attention to detail in this space was
sheer perfection,” said judge McGehee.
“It has a contemporary design that blends
beautifully with the surrounding elements and lets them shine. The vision
is unique, with artistic pieces that keep
the overall design fresh and finishes that
(allow this building to tie into) the landscape while simultaneously standing as
the jewel of the property.”
