Nick Lashley who ranked no. 353 in the world comes up with a blistering start to lead the Rocket Mortgage Classic in Detroit. The 36-year-old shot 9-under-par-63 early in the morning on Thursday to have a two-stroke lead in this inaugural PGA tournament held in Detroit, Michigan. Lashley takes the lead from a group of 33 players in the morning group who all finished 3-under-par or better. Talor Gooch and Charles Howel III are currently tied at second place with 7-under-65 while Danny Lee, Brian Stuard, and Kevin Kisner shared four players who shoot at 66.
Although no one expected it, Nick Lashley was a picture of confidence as he was seen so relaxed in the green. In a statement, he said that he just wants to take it one shot at a time and take it from there although it is not an easy thing to do. Lashley will try to finish strong as he tries to add the lone top 10 finish he carded during the FedEx Cup four months ago.
Two-time master champions, Bubba Watson and Ricky Fowlers, are among the early leaders with 4- under 68. Dustin Johnson and current U.S. Open champion Gary Woodland were among the players in the afternoon group.
It is expected that the course will be tougher at the weekend. In a forecast, the National Weather Service said that a 40% and 50% chance of rain might happen on Friday and Saturday respectively.
